Orange You Glad It’s Christmas Cocktail

Orange You Glad It's Christmas Cocktail

Why, yes we are! A riff on a sweet Southern treat for kids, this grown-up version is refreshingly orangey with a minty twist. Unlike traditional hard candy canes, soft peppermint sticks are porous, so they work beautifully as a straw and add amazing flavor.

Ingredients

Decorative sparkle sugar
2 oz. vodka
2 oz. orange juice (freshly squeezed or store-bought)
1 oz. triple sec
2-3 oz. club soda or lemon-lime soda
A shake of Angostura Orange Bitters (optional)
Soft peppermint sticks, like King Leo or Bob’s
Fresh oranges

Directions

  1. Dampen the rim of a glass and press it into a shallow dish of sparkle sugar and fill with ice.
  2. Mix the vodka, orange juice and triple sec in a cocktail shaker, fill with ice, and shake.
  3. Strain into the glass and top with soda. Add a dash of Angostura Orange Bitters (optional).
  4. Garnish with soft peppermint stick straw and an orange slice.
  5. To drink, bite the top off the peppermint stick and use as a straw.

Pro tips:

  • Serve in glasses that are a little shorter than the peppermint stick.
  • Make the traditional Southern kids’ version: Roll a fresh orange on the counter to soften it up. Cut an X with a sharp knife, and poke in a peppermint stick.
