90th birthday party decor and theme ideas
- Through the decades 🕐 Create nine photo-collage posters with images of the guest of honor in each decade of their lives. Be sure to include all the many important family members, friends and pets along the way!
- Story hour 📖 Have each attendee read or tell a story about the birthday honoree. Family and friends could also choose to read a poem or perform a song if they wish, so long as it’s something the guest of honor enjoys.
- Fun facts 🔍 Research facts from the year they were born, then print each one out and display them in frames around the space. These could also be fun, little-known facts about the birthday person themselves!
- Focus on identity 🌟 Many elderly folks struggle with feelings that they’ve lost or are losing the identity they once knew. A birthday party is a perfect occasion to celebrate all the things that makes them special, whether it was their profession, their hobbies or their role in their family.
90th birthday cake ideas
- Remember the 1930s. Take a cue from 1930s design (the decade in which they were born) and create or order an art deco-themed cake with geometric accents and curved edges.
- Photo cake. Have the baker print pictures of all the grandkids (and great-grandkids, if there are any) right on the cake. 🎂
- Next-level cupcakes. Create a platter of cupcakes with a tiny flag stuck in each, and on each flag, write an adjective about the birthday person—kind, caring, creative, etc.
90th birthday food ideas
- Finger foods 🥪 Create an array of finger sandwiches and tiny desserts and serve them on fancy china.
- Macarons 🇫🇷 Create a macaron platter and arrange the cookies in the shape of 90.
- A favorite ethnic spread 🥡🥐🌮 Does the birthday person have a favorite ethnic cuisine? Center the food around that theme, from the snacks to the entrees and beverages.
90th birthday gift ideas
- A new stuffed friend. A snuggly puppy or kitten stuffed animal are great options. Many elderly folks, especially those with dementia or living in retirement communities, can no longer have a pet. This gives them a pet to hug. ❤️
- A throw blanket. To take it up a notch, print it with photos of loved ones—including pets—both living and gone.
- A digital photo frame. Set it up ahead of time with photos of family and friends. Some frames even allow family members to send pictures remotely.
- A photo album. Fill it with personal tributes from each party attendee.
Make sure to get plenty of pictures of the birthday person. Need help with your photography skills? We’ve got you covered!
