Enchanting entrances
The holidays often include gathering family and friends together. Here are some ways to warmly welcome your visitors from the moment they arrive at your front door.
- Wreaths are a tried-and-true door decorating favorite—and for good reason! They immediately let people know that you’re in holiday celebrating mode. Consider dressing yours up with fun mini ornaments and a big bow in whatever colors make you happy. Find more ideas for personalizing your wreath here, including free printable DIY options!
- Covering your front door in wrapping paper and adding a bow to make it look like a gift is another great option. Or maybe try covering your door with homemade paper snowflakes. These ideas would work particularly well for doors that are protected by a storm door or covered by an awning, portico or porch roof.
- If you’ve got a door with glass panels, enlist the kids to paint them in holiday colors and show off their artistic skills.
- Swap out your everyday welcome mat for something holiday themed.
- Keep a decorated basket of candy canes outside the front door for delivery people to enjoy.
- Swap out your everyday porch light bulbs for ones that are green and red.
- Hang a stocking full of treats on the interior of your door so guests can grab a treat on their way out.
- If you’re a no-shoes-inside household, consider keeping a basket of holiday socks near the door so guests can keep their toes warm.
- Got a cat or dog door? Frame it with twinkle lights so even our furry friends can feel included in the festiveness. 🐶🐱
Magical mantels
Santa’s coming down the chimney to deliver all those gifts, so you might as well impress him with your holiday style! Fireplace mantels are a wonderful place to display holiday items like these:
- One or more poinsettias to add a splash of fresh Christmas color.
- A collection of nutcrackers featuring your favorite characters from Disney, Seuss, Peanuts and more. 🥰
- Your favorite family holiday photos in cute seasonal picture frames.
- You could go rogue and put some Keepsake Ornaments Storytellers from some of your favorite movies on your mantel. We won’t tell! 🤫
- Add some fresh or artificial greenery garlands for a more traditional option.
- Clip holiday cards you receive to a string or ribbon hanging from the mantel to create a garland of cards. 💌
- And of course we can’t forget hanging stockings for Santa to fill!
Cozy classrooms
We can’t promise your classroom will be calm, but we can help make it bright! Add some cheer to your students’ space with some of these fun ideas they’ll surely appreciate.
- Buy or make a holiday tinsel curtain to hang from the classroom door for students to walk through.
- Decorate bulletin boards with paper candy canes, gingerbread people or reindeer hoof prints.
- Place a decorated Christmas tree in a reading corner. Add a couple of holiday pillows, throw blankets or huggable stuffies for extra fun.
- Have the kids make red and green paper chains that can be hung all around the classroom. They could write a Christmas wish for someone else on the paper before adding it to the chain!
- Hang lightweight ornaments or paper snowflakes from the ceiling.
- Add a string of twinkle lights or two around the classroom.
- Let kids decorate holiday-themed name tags for their desks.
- Some pop-up holiday cards would also add a little festive fun to any classroom.
Lively living rooms
It’s the space where guests gather and also the perfect place for you to curl up on the couch and chill. With just a few thoughtful touches, you can turn your living room into a cozy wintry wonderland.
- Arrange seasonal throw pillows and blankets on your couch and comfy chairs to make them more fun and inviting.
- Burn a holiday-scented candle. Consider scents like peppermint, sugar cookie and Christmas tree.
- Set out framed Christmas cards from loved ones sent in years past or new ones with pretty cover images. You could also print out and frame holiday quotes that you love.
- Fill clear bowls or vases with ornaments and battery-powered twinkle lights.
- A blank living room wall makes a wonderful space to display holiday cards you receive all season long. Here are more ideas for keeping and displaying cards after the season is over!
- Display an Advent calendar! Keeping it in a central location like your living room will be a good reminder to do the Christmas countdown.
- Create a holiday playlist that plays softly in the background. Or go the easy route and play one of the playlists we made for you!
- Don’t have a real fireplace? Have your TV display a crackling fire for ambiance.
- Create a Hallmark Holiday movie watching space complete with official accessories and apparel!
- Let each member of your family decorate a tree with ornaments that represent them. Don’t forget about the fur babies!
- Our itty bittys® make great ornaments. Just sayin’. 😉
Christmassy kitchens
They say the kitchen is the heart of a home, and we couldn’t agree more. It’s a place where connections are fostered and memories are made.
- Make a simmer pot to get your whole home smelling warm and inviting.
- Set out your holiday mugs so your morning coffee can put you in a merry mood.
- Time to bring out fun drinkware and plates to make everyday meals more magical!
- There’s nothing quite like a bouquet of fresh flowers in holiday colors to make your spirit bright.
- Setting out a big bowl of pomegranates, oranges or pinecones can help liven up a dining table. Pro-tip: Have the kids decorate the pinecones with glitter for some added sparkle!
- A holiday-themed cookie jar is the perfect spot to put all those delicious cookies you’ll be making this season.
- Details can make all the difference. A cute little Christmas tea towel and some holiday scented hand soap will delight your senses.
Blissful bedrooms
Keep that Christmas spirit going in all your bedrooms by adding some of these joyful touches!
- Here’s a friendly reminder that Christmas trees can be placed anywhere and everywhere in your home—including your bedroom! (Just imagine drifting to sleep in the warm glow of twinkle lights on a mini tree!)
- And speaking of drifting to sleep, why not spend those silent nights all snuggled up in this Christmas bedding by Hallmark that can be found exclusively at Target this holiday season.
- You could also layer your bed with adorable holiday blankets.
- And a cute Christmas stuffie or two can make any bed extra inviting, especially for kids.
- Speaking of kids, a little plush (i.e., nonbreakable 😁) nativity scene would be a sweet addition to a child’s nightstand.
- And adding a few holiday books to a child’s bedroom library will make story time more magical.
- Wrap your bedroom door up in your favorite gift wrap and add a bow. A good night’s rest is an amazing gift, after all!
- Drape garland over your headboard to add to the festiveness.
- Looking for more decorating ideas for the kids’ bedrooms? We’ve got you covered.
Sparkling small spaces
- Fill these adorable bowls with peppermints for an easy-to-grab treat!
- Light a holiday-scented candle near your entryway so guests are greeted with an inviting scent.
- Elevate your guest bathroom with Christmas hand towels.
- Place a Christmas tray or bowl with bathroom essentials in your guest bathroom for visitors’ convenience.
- Fill clear bowls or vases with an array of ball ornaments or battery-operated string lights to make any small space feel more merry.
- Place a collection of snow globes or fun, interactive plush that will surprise and delight your littlest visitors.
No matter how you choose to decorate your spaces for the holidays, we hope the season brings you lots of happy and cozy moments surrounded by the people (and décor!) you love most.
