Giant tissue paper flowers are gathered together to craft a picture-perfect party backdrop. Honor the birthday girl with her age or initials spelled out in a burst of colorful blooms—whatever you choose to create, this easy tissue paper backdrop is sure to make a big impact. Materials

  • Tissue paper in a variety of colors (we used 144 sheets of 20-by-30-in. tissue paper to make the #15)
  • Scissors
  • String, chenille stems or florist wire
  • Tape

Directions

  1. For each giant flower, layer 8 sheets of tissue paper together, and accordion fold the layers. (We made our folds about 2 inches deep.)

  2. Using the illustrations provided, cut both ends of the folded paper layers in a scalloped or pointy-petal shape and cut a notch out of both sides of the center (not too big, or it might tear through).

  3. With a piece of string, chenille stem or florist wire, tie the center of the layers together at the notch.

  4. Gently fan out the layers, one at a time, to create a full flower. Make as many flowers as you need to create your #15 (we made 18 flowers total) or a monogram for your guest of honor.

  5. Tape flowers directly to your wall. Tip: Test out your tape ahead of time to make sure it doesn’t damage your walls.
