Fig spread

Fig spread served with crackers.

This simple fig spread has only 3 ingredients—figs, honey or brown sugar and cornstarch—but it's big on fresh flavor. Add this delicious fig spread to toast, biscuits or barquettes or use as a sweet and savory accompaniment to a cheese and cracker tray.

Yield: About 1 pint

Ingredients

4 cups ripe fresh figs
¼ cup honey or brown sugar
2 Tbsp. cornstarch

Directions

  1. Puree figs in a food processor or blender.
  2. In medium saucepan, combine figs, honey (or brown sugar) and cornstarch.
  3. Bring to a boil. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring frequently.
  4. Remove from heat. Spread will thicken as it cools. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
