Sloth cupcakes

Sloth cupcakes with chocolate frosting, caramel eyes and candy details.

Sloths are having a moment. Maybe because they seem so chill when the world around them is going so fast? Whatever. We love them. The base of these sloth cupcakes is just any homemade or store-bought cupcake. The characteristic sloth look comes from chocolate frosting, a little marshmallow fondant, smooshed caramel pieces and a few easy candy additions. Enjoy (or slowly savor!) these cute sloth cupcakes.

Ingredients

1 box white cake mix (or any unfrosted cupcakes)
Chocolate frosting
Brown sanding sugar
Marshmallow fondant, rolled ¼” thick
Sheets of caramel (or smooshed caramel pieces)
Black candy pearls
Black jelly beans
Black gel icing

Directions

  1. Make the cupcakes and let them cool completely. (We used boxed cake mix to create the base for our sloths, but any cupcakes without icing will work.)
  2. Frost with chocolate frosting.
  3. Roll in brown sanding sugar.
  4. Add a piece of white fondant for the face with a small oval cookie cutter.
  5. Cut a piece of caramel with a heart-shaped cookie cutter.
  6. Cut the caramel heart into two halves and add to the face for the sloth’s “mask.”
  7. Dot the caramel with chocolate frosting to create rings around the eyes.
  8. Add candy pearls for eyes.
  9. Cut a jelly bean in half for the nose, and use a tiny bit of frosting to add it.
  10. Pipe a smile with black gel frosting.
