Haiku Poetry Day
- Haiku poems originated in Japan. In English, the format is three lines and 17 syllables long: First line is five syllables, then seven, then five. No rhyming necessary. Haiku traditionally are about nature or seasons—they’re written in present tense and capture a moment.
- For fun, write some haiku of your own today: Write in your journal, send some to a friend or, for extra fun, send all your work emails haiku-style. (It’s fun. We’ve tried it.)
