First, download and print your Father’s Day writing prompts. Once it’s ready, you and the kids can get started (this printable is adult-friendly, too!). We recommend using markers and crayons to fill it out, plus glitter and paint for older kids to decorate with (or little ones if you don’t mind the mess).

If you’re putting it in a frame or something else for Dad, feel free to trim to size if needed. And while you’ve got the art supplies out, check out these free printable Father’s Day coloring pages to keep the creative fun going!

Ways to make it even more special

A child's hands fills out a free printable writing prompt page for Father's Day; it is addressed to dad and has prompts like,

  • Write some silly dad jokes on sticky notes and place them on the printable to make him smile.
  • Tuck it into his Father’s Day card to make it extra sentimental.
  • Put it in a cool frame so he can place it in on his nightstand, at his office desk or in the living room for a sweet reminder of how loved he is.
  • Hide it in a bag he uses frequently. For work, the gym, guitar classes, art classes—the options are endless!
  • Bring him breakfast in bed and add it on the tray. Try not to spill anything!
  • Use it to start a mini scrapbook for Dad. Add family pictures, ticket stubs, old cards and other mementos to get him in his feels. And if he’s got his own sets of photo albums or scrapbooks from his younger days, this is a great time to ask him to pull them out and stroll down memory lane together!
  • Record the kids reading it aloud to him for a new home family video. You can even make a tradition out of it and rewatch together every Father’s Day (just be warned: teary eyes are likely!).
  • Hide it somewhere in the house for him to find. In a carton of eggs, under his favorite mug, in his wallet—the more unexpected, the better!
  • Give him a love shower! Have other little ones in his life like nieces, nephews or friends’ kids he loves like his own fill one out. Grown-ups are welcome to join in, too!

If you needed one more reason to fill out these Father’s Day writing prompts, just think of the big smile on Dad’s face when he sees the finished product. Or just think of how amazing and wonderful he is—that works, too!
