What are some witchy color palettes I can use for my witch party decorations?
When it comes to witchy Halloween party ideas, there are so many possibilities! From brooding and shadowy locations where bats fly, toads croak and werewolves howl to warm and welcoming kitchen witch vibes to mystical dens full of mist and crystals, there’s no end to the décor options. Which ones you choose are up to you!
For trendy witchy themes, a mix of alluring, moody and shimmering colors are all the rage. Think colors like:
- Hot pink
- Misty lavender
- Deep brown
- Slime green
- Turquoise blue
For a classic, witchy Halloween, consider more earth-based colors:
- Moody purple or aubergine
- Midnight black
- Fog gray
- Burnt orange
- Pumpkin-leaf green
What are some witch-themed party ideas?
You can make party magic with your own creative interpretation of witch Halloween party ideas! Here are some witchy themes anyone can brew:
- Astrology, Auras and Awesomeness 🔮 Get witchcrafty with crystal ball décor, lighthearted horoscope predictions and positive vibes all around. This can be a great affirmation party with just-for-fun astrology readings that compliment your partygoers and give them something magical to look forward to.
- Haunted Forest Fairies 🧚♂️ Whimsical witches can get into what’s lurking in nature…which in your case means cute party décor! Lure your friends into an outdoor haven under the stars with twinkle lights, a firepit and cozy homemade potions like pumpkin spice lattes or warm mulled cider. Add thrifted elements like antique chandeliers, jewel-toned goblets and dramatic candleholders.
- Garden Enchantresses 🌹 This party is for your plant besties! Instead of mums, bring in asters and sedum for fall perennial pollinator support. (Give a plant to each guest as a party favor that they can plant at home!) Display Cinderella pumpkins by aged lanterns. Have an ornament tree where everyone can place a special wish. Celebrate everything under the moon that you’re thankful for.
- Spellbound Beauties 📚 Rather than typical spells, this could instead be a witch-themed book club party! Spell your favorite book by bringing a copy along for a swap. Decorate with vintage hardbound books, an old typewriter with fall flowers tucked between the keys and creepy elements popping out of bookshelves.
What are some easy DIY witch décor ideas I can create for my party?
Know that whatever you do will be enough, but here are some ideas, just in case you’d like a little inspiration:
- Make celestial gift bag lanterns. 🌙 Get a few gift bags in Halloween colors like black, purple or orange. Draw shapes like stars and moons on the front, slip a piece of scrap cardboard in to protect the back side, and cut the shapes out with a craft knife. Add adhesive beads and gems and tape a piece of tissue paper inside the bag to cover your moon or star-shaped opening. Slip a battery-powered tea light into the bag and voila—a lantern with an otherworldly, astrological glow.
- Make oversize zodiac sign ornaments that you can hang from your ceiling or doorways. 🦂 There are many ways to do this, from drawing your own on shimmering card stock to printing them off and making cutouts. Pair with twinkle lights for an extra mystical effect.
- Use all-black dishes and platters, sprinkling in crystal elements like grey drink goblets and thrifted or vintage silverware. 🍴By using serving ware as décor, you elevate your food presentation and show off your mesmerizing style.
- Make an old-school paper chain garland. ⛓️ This construction paper garland is popular during the Christmas season, but we’re making it a thing for Halloween witches! Use black paper, cut out rings, string together and drape throughout your party rooms. Twining them around some gauzy purple tulle would be extra enchanting.
- Sprinkle in creepy candlesticks. 🕯️ Thrift some vintage candlesticks that look like they’re straight out of a haunted mansion. The taller and more ornate, the better! You don’t even need to fill them all with candles. Instead drape dried, burgundy roses around the bases to entice mystery and intrigue. If you DO use candles, try flameless or place them in safe spots so they can be monitored at all times.
- Add dead, dried flowers and roses to dark vases. 🥀 This is pretty easy! A week or two before, buy yourself a few bouquets. Let them dry out and, voila, you’ve got crackly, cackly floral arrangements!
- Place pumpkins on tables and counters. 🎃 You could even get decorative, reusable pumpkins like this gorgeous glass beauty to use year after witchy year!
- Display a bona fide witch house. 🧙♀️ This one is complete with a sound and light show that will wow your guests. If you’re looking to create more of a display, there’s a haunted house, a crooked street sign and a few happy-go-lucky Halloween characters, too.
How do I use astrology, moon phases and crystals as visual inspiration for my witch party?
Astrology, numerology and other types of clairvoyant practices have very intricate roots, so we’ll stick with the basics here.
Incorporating astrology-themed party ideas and crystal-themed party décor can be as simple as popping in a few specific details.
- Weave table numbers (like at weddings) into your décor. 💖 You can write a brief sentence or two on homemade place cards about their meanings. For example: Three represents childlike wonder, creativity and optimism.
- Create a tablescape with tiny, framed prints of the different zodiac flowers. 🌻 You might want to find out each guest’s zodiac flower ahead of time, so that they can take home their specific print at the end of the party. I’m a Libra, so I’d be a rose…and who wouldn’t want a beautiful rose print! Find more flower meanings here.
- Scatter nametags with astrology adjectives or descriptions for guests to choose and wear. ⚖️ Again, I’ll use Libra as an example. My nametag might say “Quite the diplomat, but WAY indecisive.” (See how much fun you can have writing these?)
- Use sparkly stuff you have for crystal inspiration. ✨ You might have a candelabra, candle votives or even costume jewelry that gives those ethereal vibes.
- Pop in whimsical surface patterns. 🕸️ Tablecloths, tea towels and peel-‘n’-stick wallpaper with woodland creatures, folklore and dreamlike scenes can work as table coverings or runners.
What are some DIY Halloween party activities?
These Halloween party crafts for adults are meant to be the least amount of work possible so you can have the most amount of fun possible! Take a look and pick what charms you.
- Send witchy wishes for a Happy Halloween. 💌 Set up an old, black typewriter (that still works) on a table with some candles and a few slips of nice paper. Provide Halloween cards for guests to send or encourage them to bring their own, then type up sweet “spells” to go inside.
- Make a spell cauldron. 🫧 Have everyone write a kindhearted spell on bits of paper, then toss in a cauldron (or a big pasta pot you call a cauldron!). Each guest chooses a spell and all spirits are lifted!
- Paint your zodiac signs. 🎨 Provide watercolor markers or paintbrushes and some drawing paper. Our tip: Crayola makes some amazing art tools for all ages! Share pictures of zodiac symbols and have everyone draw their own. You can even suggest it as a piece of artwork they could frame and hang up at home!
- Create a lucky numbers bowl. 🍀 Place number ornaments in a trick-or-treat bowl. Have each guest pick one as their lucky number for the day, month or year! You can also provide numerology meanings for each number for more of a witchy thrill!
- Do mani-pedis with witchy nail colors. 💅 This is the perfect environment for innocent witchy gossip and spritzy drink elixirs!
- Mix kooky cocktails. 🍹 We have your delectable mocktails and cocktails here and here. Your coven will thank you!
- Customize your own candy jars. 🍬 Repurpose jam jars as candy jars! Provide different types of colorful candies that guests can choose from. Make lids out of bits of fabric and ribbon ties.
- Have a coloring party. 🖍️ Print witch-themed coloring sheets online and provide crayons. This is a low-key activity to cajole your introverts to come to your witchy circle! Sit around, color and let the conversation naturally flow.
- Write your own horoscopes. 🌗 Provide guests with basic zodiac sign meanings and have each person write their own predictions. Happy predictions are highly recommended—here’s an example: “Mercury isn’t in retrograde, so you should be having a hexcellent day! Stay attuned to your surroundings and notice all the sparkling things in your world.”
What are some witch-themed group activities for a party?
Depending on the types of witches you know, this list of Halloween party games for groups takes into consideration both extroverted and introverted guests.
- Read each other’s fortunes with fortune cards. ⚔️ Or make origami paper fortune tellers! (Here’s a free, printable download.) If you make your own, remember to keep your fortunes fun, lighthearted and positive. We’re here for the encouraging kismet!
- Introduce spine-chillingly entertaining icebreakers. 🥠 Look up playful horoscopes online and read one for each guest.
- Write a ghost story as a group. 👻 Find storytelling prompts from a blog or website and have each person contribute a bit of the story.
- Take turns reading ghost stories, witch spells or tales about goblins. 👹 Hey, even Hansel and Gretel is scary, so if you’ve got that lying around your home, go for it!
- Photo backdrop for selfies: 📸 A photo booth with costume props always gets guests engaged!
- Share compliments by the glow of a hypnotic fire. 🔥 Sit around a fireplace or bonfire. Have each person say something really nice about the person to their left. Some examples: “Katy wears the cutest dresses,” “I like how Dylan always has the best advice,” “Maria is so smart, but she doesn’t act snooty about it,” “I wish I could draw like Cole…you’re so talented.”

- Chips, dips and pretzels in festive bowls
- Fruit and veggie trays
- Mini sandwiches, premade probably (okay, definitely)
- Cheese and cracker tray, including some vegan cheeses
- Charcuterie board of delish stuff like candies, popcorn balls and Rice Krispie treats
- Cupcakes or cookies from a trusted baker (I’m not the trusted baker)
- Deviled eggs
- Crockpot soup or cheese dip
- Pizza
Cooking with the Entire Coven
So you’re making your meal together! Depending on your crowd, you can do a few things.
- Cooking can make some people anxious and stressed (I know this for a fact). So if you have folks who don’t want any part in food prep, offer bites at various stations. Let them munch and mingle at their own pace. You could even have a creation table so folks can customize their sandwich, cupcake, fondue or candy jar.
- Prepare the meal while folks sip and socialize around the kitchen cauldron, ahem, island. If people want to join in, great! If they just want to observe, that’s fine, too!
- Sit around your dining table and make a food craft together, like orange slice garland. It can be a fun way to initiate conversation and get a headstart on holiday décor.
- Decorate cookies while watching Halloween movies. Provide icing, sprinkles and other candies.
- Gather guests around the firepit for s’mores! Do a tutorial beforehand if people have never made their own. Also, help those who are destined to burn everything they cook!

These Halloween party ideas at home have surely got you thinking, so now it’s time for the parting gifts! What takeaway trinkets work for your crafty crew?

- Matching candy rings: To honor your coven camaraderie, remind the ghouls and guys that they belong in your circle and that they’re loved.
- Witch hats: Who doesn’t need a new witch hat?
- Witch broom treat bags: We won’t brag, but we will say these are pretty darn endearing.
- Instant pics from the party: Take Polaroid or Instax photos throughout the event and let people take some home.

- Magic wands: Because why not?
